Rebecca Root
Rebecca Root is one of a number of emerging British actors to take to the UK TV screens in recent years. Her talent captured the hearts of British audiences in her portrayal of Judy in Boy Meets Girl, the first BBC comedy to focus on a transgender storyline and the first sitcom to star a transgender actor in a leading role. Boy Meets Girl was a popular and critical success and the second series aired in the summer of 2016.
In 2015 Rebecca appeared in the feature film The Danish Girl alongside Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander. More recently she co-starred in the Hank Zipzer Christmas movie for CBBC with Henry Winkler, and Doctors for BBC1. She has also narrated Juliet Jacques’s memoir “Trans” for Audible. In 2015 Rebecca was listed the 11th most influential LGBT person in the UK on the Independent on Sunday Rainbow List.
Aside from her acting, Rebecca is a trained voice and speech teacher, occasional stand-up comedian, and poet, and is a patron of the anti-bullying and LGBT awareness charities Diversity Role Models and All About Trans.
We are incredibly proud to be able to welcome Rebecca to Transforming Cinema!
